Our Crane Safety: Hand Signals training course provides in-depth instruction on the standardized hand signals used to guide crane load movements safely in compliance with OSHA Standards 29 CFR 1910 Subpart N and 29 CFR 1926 Subparts H, R, and CC. Cranes are used across construction, manufacturing, and transportation worksites to load, unload, lift, and move materials. When an operator cannot see the full path of a load — or when visibility is limited — a qualified signal person directs movements using standardized hand signals. Miscommunication during crane operations can be fatal, making proper hand signal training critical for both operators and signal persons. Available in English and Spanish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this training satisfy OSHA requirements?

Yes. This course covers the signal person training requirements of OSHA Standards 29 CFR 1910 Subpart N and 29 CFR 1926 Subparts H, R, and CC. Please note that OSHA also requires signal persons to be qualified — either through a third-party qualification program or by employer-documented qualification — and that qualification must be completed separately from this classroom training.

When is a signal person required by OSHA?

OSHA requires a signal person when the operator does not have a direct line of sight to the load, the path of travel, or the destination of the load. A signal person is also required when the equipment is traveling with a load and the operator cannot see the path, or when the operator or someone else identified as a competent person determines that using a signal person would prevent miscommunication and improve safety.

Does only the signal person need this training, or does the crane operator need it too?

Both the crane operator and the signal person need to understand hand signals. The operator must be able to correctly interpret every signal received, and the signal person must be able to correctly give them. This course covers the responsibilities and signal recognition requirements for both roles.

Does this subscription automatically renew?

Yes. This is a prepaid subscription that automatically renews at the end of each term at the then-current price unless canceled. You can view, manage, or cancel your subscription at any time through your account portal.

What's the difference between Streaming, MP4, USB, and DVD?

Streaming gives you instant online access from any device — no download required. MP4 is a one-time download you host on your own platform such as an LMS, file server, or SharePoint. USB and DVD are physical media shipped to you, best for classroom training where internet access is limited or unavailable.

If I purchase the USB, can I copy the video to share with others?

No. The video on the USB is encrypted and licensed to only be played from the USB. It must be inserted in your computer for it to play.

What documentation is provided for compliance recordkeeping?

The kit includes a compliance manual, employee quiz and answer key, completion certificates, wallet/ID cards, an attendance log, a training outline, and crane safety supplemental printouts — everything needed to document that training was completed and maintain OSHA compliance records.

How do I access the Documentation on the DVD?

You will need to access the DVD with a computer so you can browse to the Documentation folder.
