Our Safety Orientation (Construction Version) training course gives new construction employees a solid foundation in workplace safety before they set foot on a jobsite. Working in construction brings daily exposure to serious hazards — whether you're a painter, carpenter, electrician, plumber, or roofer, equipment like forklifts, aerial lifts, bulldozers, excavators, and backhoes is a constant presence, and every worker needs to understand the characteristics and movements of machinery around them, even without hands-on operator training. Employers must have safety programs in place to protect workers from unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous conditions, and the first step in any safety program is solid training. This 19-minute course builds the right safety attitude from day one and introduces new hires to the most common hazards they'll encounter on a construction site. Note that additional, topic-specific training is recommended for many of the areas introduced in this course — this orientation is a starting point, not a substitute for in-depth training on fall protection, confined spaces, trenching, or other specialized topics. Available in English and Spanish.

Who Should Take This Course?
All new hires in the construction industry. Also suitable for members of management, supervisors, train-the-trainer use, and annual refresher training.

This orientation touches on many topics briefly — commonly paired with these dedicated courses for deeper, standards-specific training on the highest-risk areas in construction:

  • Fall Protection Training — falls are the leading cause of death in construction. This dedicated course covers OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart M in full detail, going far beyond the introductory coverage in this orientation.
  • Ladder Safety Training — ladders are one of the most common sources of construction falls. This course provides the in-depth ladder inspection and safe-use training this orientation only introduces.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Training — covers hazard assessment and proper PPE selection under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.132-.138 in far more detail than this overview course.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this course satisfy all of OSHA's training requirements for construction workers?

No, and it's not meant to. This is a broad orientation course designed to introduce new hires to common construction hazards and build the right safety mindset. Many of the topics touched on here — fall protection, confined spaces, trenching, electrical safety — have their own dedicated OSHA standards requiring more in-depth, topic-specific training. Check with your safety manager about which specific courses your workforce needs based on their job duties.

Is this different from the general industry Safety Orientation course?

Yes. This version is written specifically for construction site hazards — equipment like forklifts, aerial lifts, excavators, and backhoes, along with topics like trenching, shoring, and scaffolds. If your workforce is not in construction, our Safety Orientation: General Version may be a better fit.

How long is the training video?

19 minutes, making it practical to complete as part of a new hire's first-day onboarding without disrupting a full shift.

Is this suitable for experienced workers, or only new hires?

While designed primarily for new hire orientation, it also works well as an annual refresher for existing workers, for supervisors training the trainer, and as a baseline safety review after a break in employment or a change in job site.

Does this subscription automatically renew?

Yes. This is a prepaid subscription that automatically renews at the end of each term at the then-current price unless canceled. You can view, manage, or cancel your subscription at any time through your account portal.

What's the difference between Streaming, MP4, USB, and DVD?

Streaming gives you instant online access from any device — no download required. MP4 is a one-time download you host on your own platform such as an LMS, file server, or SharePoint. USB and DVD are physical media shipped to you, best for classroom training where internet access is limited or unavailable.

If I purchase the USB, can I copy the video to share with others?

No. The video on the USB is encrypted and licensed to only be played from the USB. It must be inserted in your computer for it to play.

What documentation is provided for compliance recordkeeping?

The kit includes a compliance manual, employee quiz and answer key, completion certificates, wallet/ID cards, an attendance log, a training outline, and applicable OSHA construction standards — everything needed to document that orientation training was completed.
