What is the difference between this course and the general industry Confined Space Entry course?

The two courses cover different OSHA standards. This version covers 29 CFR 1926 Subpart AA, the Confined Spaces in Construction standard, which requires continuous atmospheric monitoring and coordination between the controlling, host, and entry employers on a shared site — and it uses construction-site scenarios and language throughout. The general industry course covers 29 CFR 1910.146, the Permit-Required Confined Spaces standard. The core confined space content is the same in both. What is the difference between a confined space and a permit-required confined space?

A confined space has limited means for entry or exit and is not designed for continuous occupancy — such as a tank, pit, or manhole. A permit-required confined space has one or more additional hazard characteristics: a potentially hazardous atmosphere, engulfment potential, converging walls or tapering floors that could trap an entrant, or other recognized safety or health hazards. Permit spaces require a written entry permit, designated attendants, and an emergency rescue plan before entry.

Who needs confined space training — just the entrant, or also the attendant and supervisor?

OSHA requires training for all three roles — authorized entrants, attendants who monitor from outside the space, and entry supervisors. This course covers the responsibilities and training requirements for each role.
