Who needs Hazard Communication training?
Any employee who may be exposed to hazardous chemicals under normal working conditions or in foreseeable emergencies. This covers virtually every industry - manufacturing, construction, healthcare, custodial, laboratories, warehousing, and more.
When does HazCom training need to be conducted?
OSHA 1910.1200 requires training at the time of initial assignment and whenever a new chemical hazard the employees have not previously been trained on is introduced into their work area. Many employers also conduct annual refreshers as a best practice.
What's the difference between the three programs?
The main Hazard Communication program covers the full HCS - written program, hazard classification, labels, SDS, and employee rights. The Safety Data Sheets program is a focused deep dive on reading and using the 16-section SDS format. The Chemical Labels program focuses specifically on GHS pictograms, signal words, hazard statements, and precautionary statements found on container labels.
